I wasn’t looking for a dog when he found me, but I couldn’t resist the big ears, soulful eyes, and tragic backstory. Dobby was rescued from a hoarding situation in Texas. He was scared and malnourished, not used to people, with multiple scars. It took him a long time to truly open up, but he is the most loving, goofy, hopeful dog I’ve ever met. The first time he wagged his tail, I nearly cried; now he waggle-waggles all the time, even when drinking from his favorite water bowl. He also found his voice, which is a bit houndy, and he loves to talk when excited.
Though he has a thyroid condition, arthritis, and dementia now, he still carries around his favorite toy (the first toy he ever had), loves snuggling with his grandma, and will do the full-body happy dance when he gets his favorite treat. Every day, he brings joy and hope to my life, and I can’t imagine the world without him.
